The American Cancer Society (ACS) offers free guidance and support to those affected by cancer. Some of their services include:
Transportation to your cancer treatments. Road to Recovery is a service in which volunteer drivers provide people with cancer transportation to and from their scheduled medical appointments. Family and friends may not always be available, so to arrange transportation contact the ACS at 800-227-2345. Advanced notice is required.
Free wigs and hats. The ACS Wig Boutique offers brand new wigs in many style choices, hats, turbans and scarves- all for free. There is a Wig Boutique at the American Cancer Society DuPage Regional Office, located at 1801 Meyers Rd, Suite 100 Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. For alternate locations, hours of operation, or to schedule an appointment, call 630-932-1141 (press option 3).
Information on health insurance and financial assistance. The ACS provides support in figuring out your medical bills and insurance. If you do not have medical insurance, the ACS can help determine eligibility for state and federal programs and assist with applications.
Support for patients, family members and caregivers. Cancer patients can connect with others one-on-one, through support groups or online. Cancer support groups are also available for caregivers and families.
